The Story of the Half Eaten Couch

Remember this? I posted this picture almost two years ago when our dogs decided to use our couch as a chew toy. It was also the day I almost gave them up for adoption. Just kidding. Kind of.
Seriously, I cried when I saw this and had no intentions to let these rat bastards sweet dogs destroy more furniture.

So this is the solution we came up with! Classy huh? We seriously lived like this for months, maybe even a year. I don't remember, I clearly blocked this lovely part from my memory.

You didn't think, that a few buckets and putting the chairs on the table stopped them, now, did you?

It's probably safe to say that I had a mild nervous breakdown when I saw this. Looking at this couch every day made me so mad, that I was ready to put it out on the street (along with the dogs) to never have to see it again. We didn't have the money to buy a new couch, but I'd rather sit on the floor than to see this crappy couch for one more day. Yea, I'm dramatic like that.

Katie was obviously the bigger person here and convinced me to keep it and promised me that we would get a new couch by the end of the year. Which sent me right into another hissy fit, since that was five long months away. Little did I know, that the five months I was dreading turned into 18 months. I wish I was kidding.
But to tell you the truth, after a few months I didn't even see it anymore and was only reminded that we had a half eaten couch by visitors who commented on it.
It wasn't like we had to save for 18 months to afford a new couch, but to be honest, we didn't trust the two godzillas for one second and I knew if this ever happened again...well, let's not go there.
So one Saturday in February, the day I have been waiting for, finally arrived...we got new couches!

We also splurged on a coffee table (after putting our drinks on the floor for the last 3 years, because we never had one!) and a new lamp! We love this floor lamp so much and it looks so pretty when the lights are on!

We already had the carpet in the garage (another thing we had to hide from the dogs) and Julia left us the black shelf when she moved back to Germany.

The shelf and table desperately needs some "Pinterest Lovin'" (aka decorations), but I haven't had the time for it...let's just hope it doesn't take us another 18 months to do something about it!

As you can see in this picture, Zuma loves the new furniture (he's thinking "yay, new chew toys" right there), but Cosie is pretty depressed about the fact that he is not allowed on the couches anymore. Don't worry, he'll get over it!

April phone dump

Some more pictures of our April. He's my bed hog, but I love sharing the bed with him and the way he comes find me in his sleep to snuggle up to me. Work Crew! Easter Preparations...it took me a solid hour to fill all the eggs. Finn chipped his permanent front tooth, and had to get it fixed. He was so brave. I tried to hold his hand to let him know I was there, and he kept giving me a thumbs up. Reading in bed with them is my favorite. We went to play mini golf, and it was an absolutely shit show. Just look at Finn in the background, he was on fire on this day. That's his "cool face". Not pictured are all the times he melted down because he wasn't "good enough". I really need to stop playing this game with him, because it happens every single time...haha.  Book Club! I wasn't a fan of the book, but it was great getting out and talking about books with other readers. He got into kinetic sand for a few weeks, and I felt like my floors were covered in s...

Germany

I took a quick trip to Germany over spring break while the boys were on vacation with Katie. My dad had some medical issues over the past year, and it had been almost two years since I went, but a trip that was supposed to be five days in Germany, ended up being only four days because of flight delays. When in Germany for the first time, you HAVE to try Mettbroetchen. Needless to say, she was not a fan haha. A trip down memory lane is always on the agenda for the first day, walking around my village, visiting the homes where I grew up in (which are luckily still owned by my family), visiting my grandparent's graves, and eating all my favorite foods.  My only living grandparent, and one of the main reasons I wanted to go visit. It was so special to spend time with her. We had doener almost every day! Family dinner at my favorite restaurant one night, I absolutely loved how many people were able to join us even though it was very short notice. We also had breakfast at my grandma'...

August phone dump

It's September, and I couldn't be more excited for what's to come...Fall, Halloween, Christmas...it's my favorite time of year. But let's look back at our August! I've had them fill out the same back to school form since they started school many years ago. When all the kids go back to school, us moms celebrate with a back to school brunch and it was everything my heart needed and more! So many good conversations, so many laughs, and getting to hold baby Nora was the icing on the cake! Playdate with some friends! Fox read with me in the car while we were waiting for Finn's bus...it made me so happy! He asked me to make him an "ultimate chill space" while he was at school, and this is what I came up with. He approved, and even tried to have a sleepover with me there, but we only made it for about an hour, before we went to bed. I took the kids, and one of Fox's friend to the water park one afternoon and it was perfect. Finn braved the high dive f...
