23 Weeks Pregnancy Update

April 18, 2018

How far along:
23 weeks

Baby is the size of a:
Grapefruit or a Barbie doll. Huge!

Total weight gain:
Still 22lbs. Surprisingly I haven’t gained anything this week, but I’m sure I’ll catch up next week again!

Maternity Clothes?
Both, but mostly maternity clothes.

Stretch Marks?
Not yet.

Sleep?
Has been pretty bad this week, since Fox was sick and has been sleeping with us for a few nights. Still taking one bathroom break each night.

Best moment of the Week:
We emptied out the nursery in preparation for the contractors to come in and also did some baby shopping. I know we have tons of clothes from Fox, but Old Navy had a bunch of shirts on clearance for $1.47, so how can I resist that?

Movement:
Some days he’s going crazy in there. The other night he kicked me so hard, it woke me up!

Food Cravings:
I ate an entire giant watermelon by myself this week!

Belly Button in or out:
In.

Gender:
Sweet baby boy!

Symptoms:
Same as last week. Nothing too bad and I’m grateful for the way I feel right now.

Anything Making you queasy or Sick?
Feeling really good!

Have you Started to Show yet?
The other night we had dinner at a restaurant and the waitress started to make a comment about my belly, but then stopped herself pretty quickly, because she must have been second guessing herself if I was pregnant or not. Haha. People keep telling me that I’m still tiny…I’m sure the next four weeks or so will change that.

What I miss:
Sleeping through the night. I know it will just get worse once the baby is here and I’m super terrified of those sleepless nights. I remember them very vividly from Fox and I’m definitely a person who needs their sleep.

What I'm looking forward to:
I have my next doctor’s appointment in a few days! I think the doctor mentioned that we are done with ultrasounds for now, so that’s a bummer, but he also said we can probably schedule my repeat C-section date, so I’m looking forward to knowing the official date (unless he comes early of course).
I’m not sure if I mentioned it before, but I decided to go for another C-section this time around. My doctor said based on his notes from last time, there was no chance in hell a baby would come out the “natural way” unless he’s very, very early. I had a horrible experience with Fox’s birth and I don’t want to go through that again…to try for 24 hours, just to end up with another emergency C-section anyway. I’m looking forward to going into the hospital rested this time around, with childcare for Fox lined up and ready to go. Of course, this little guy could have other plans, but we’ll have to wait and see.

What I'm not looking forward to:
I’m starting to get a little anxious about the thought that Fox won’t be an only child anymore and how his world will change. I think in the long run, it will benefit him to have a sibling, but the adjustment might be hard. So every time I do something with just him and me, I wonder how this will be different soon and it makes me a little sad for him. I’m already dealing with major mom guilt every day and I know it’ll just get worse with two kids!

  1. Your belly is so adorable! I remember getting a bit anxious the closer we came to Will's birth. Surprisingly, Grace did amazing at the start. We didn't start to see her act out until he was around 6-8 months old. How old will Fox be when the baby is born? I know my only experience has been to have a 5-year gap between kiddos, but honestly, it's been so great! I can't imagine how things would be were they only 1-2 years apart. It makes me tired just thinking about it, LOL!

    1. Thank you! Fox will be 4y3m old when this one is born (if he stays put until then). I like having the larger age gap because I think it'll be easier on us and Fox (he is in school 9-3 every day), but I also wonder if they will grow up playing together, or if the age is too large for that. But I hear you, I can't imagine having 2 under 2 like so many of my friends did...awful!

    2. With my siblings, I'm the middle child and my older brother and younger sister were always super close growing up - way closer to each other than they were to me, lol. They have a 5.5 year age gap and it didn't impact their relationship. This gives me hope that Gracie and Will and your little ones will be close too! :)

  2. Little Monster was 4yrs4months when Boo arrived and they are absolutely the best of pals. It is almost unbelievable how well they merged as siblings. FWIW, they play together all the time and it is mostly wonderful. Occasional bickering does happen of course, but all in all it is sibling sweetness.

That belly keeps getting more and more adorable...I am not going to be able to make it to full term belly shots, LOL

August iPhone dump

A few of my favorite moments from August! Meet the teacher for the boys! I received this picture from Katie's wife, such a sweet bond they have. I'm also loving how his pajamas are inside out...haha. Walter came back to spend a few days with us! We watched him last summer, and the boys kept talking about him, so we were all so excited when his mom asked us to watch him for a few days. Notice Finn pouting. He was upset that Walter "only pays attention to Fox". So many big emotions in such a tiny body. Mr. Cool Guy at his dentist check up and teeth cleaning! I was trying to get some work done in my office, but this guy needed some attention. Finn made a bed for them, so they could sleep together. In the end, no one wanted to sleep there, but he was so happy to cuddle with Walter for a bit. My friend got me some comedy tickets to see "Nurse John", so I invited my two besties, and two of my old classmates, and we had a blast, he was so funny. We even got VIP acc...

May iPhone dump

Some of my favorite moments of May that haven't made it on the blog yet. May has been such an incredible month and I wish I could turn back time and do it all over again. Between graduating from nursing school and all the celebrations that came with that, Fox's 10th birthday, Finn's Kindergarten graduation, and all the sweet little moments in between, it was a month I will never forget.  Kindergarten Homework for this cutie, he is very smart, but hates doing it. This was my favorite view at school, right when you exited the building. This was the place where we met up with friends during breaks, and after every exam, and I wanted to take a picture to remember this special place.  Making paper airplanes has been a new favorite for him. This was two days before I took my final exam, and I probably should've been studying, but having an ice cream date with the boys sounded much more fun. He loves to make us laugh. While Finn and I were getting ready for bed, I asked him to...

December iPhone dump

December came and went in a flash! We visited Santa! I started a new job in November as a patient care technician in the Oncology unit at the hospital I'm hoping to get hired by after I graduate. I have heard from many people that this hospital usually hires nurses from within, so I wanted to get my foot in the door, and also gain some more experience before graduating. I was really nervous about handling two 12 hour days per week, on top of school and sharing custody of the kids, and while it hasn't been easy, it has been very rewarding. I love the unit I'm on, the patients, the people I work with, and it's a very humbling experience to work in Oncology.  I took a screen shot of my activity after one of my shifts, I usually average between 7.5-9.5 miles per day, just from walking all over the unit.  The boys are playing bar with their cousin at Grandma's house.  We celebrated their cousin's first birthday! S'mores in the backyard. Nikolaus (a german traditi...
