The windy city

I have talked about the boys half siblings families before, and I have loved the relationships we have built with them over the past 11 years.
For fall break, one of the families invited us to come stay with them in Chicago. I had met the moms before when they were pregnant with their first, but it was the first time for all of us to meet the kids.

We loved going from Phoenix, where it was still 100 degrees, to this beautiful weather in Chicago.

Half-brothers! The family lived in the cutest neighborhood.

The kids quickly warmed up to each other while playing Mario Cart.

The family had work and school the next day, so the boys and I ventured out on our own, determined to figure out the Chicago public transportation system. First stop was Starbucks of course!

Their first time riding the subway. Neither of them was a big fan.

I made the big mistake of thinking that I didn't need a stroller for a 6-year old, so this day was sprinkled with complaints of being tired and "how much further". I tried to make the best out of it, but all in all, these kids walked seven miles on that day, and I was so proud of them. We borrowed a stroller for the next day haha.

We went to the SlooMoo, which is a slime museum. My friend had recommended it, and it was probably one of the highlights of their trip.

There were tons of stations where the kids could play with different kind of slime.

Their faces say it all, they had an absolute blast.

Fox was even brave enough to get "slimed".

At the end, they were able to create their very own slime, including texture and scent, to take home.

This kid was a mess, he was covered from head to toe in slime.

We took an Uber to Navy Pier, where we had lunch and ice cream.

The boys were tired of walking, so we took one of these bike taxis to a park. It was so fun.

This park (Maggie Daley) was absolutely amazing, I think we spent two hours there.

Someone crashed hard on the subway home...sweet boy!

We spent some time with the half siblings when we got home, and then all went to bed early.

The next morning, I took the boys to the Nutella Cafe for breakfast. The line was insane, but it was really good, and I'm glad we went.

Millenium Park was next!

I love this picture that Fox took of us.

We met up with the half siblings at Lincoln park in the afternoon.

Followed by dinner at Ed Debevnics, which was a blast. I had no idea that the waiters there are rude to you on purpose, and the kids didn't either, so you can imagine their faces.

One of the moms gave these wands to the boys, and they kept them entertained for hours.

I thought this bike was so cool, especially when you live in a city like Chicago.

He makes animal friends everywhere he goes.

They played some kind of dancing game on the Nintendo switch.

It was really special seeing the kids get to know each other and bond.
We were all sad when our time there came to an end. Chicago has been my favorite city for many years, but the boys had never been, and we all can't wait to go back one day.

July iPhone dump

The rest of our July in pictures! Movie date with the boys! I took Finn and his best friend to the Aquarium one day, while Fox was at the allergist with Katie. They both had a blast. Trying to touch the sting rays... Sweet brotherly moment at a play place. One of my patients made this for me, and it made my day. It's now hanging from the mirror in my car, as a reminder how fragile life is. This kid kills me with his watermelons. He always wants to buy them, so he can help me cut them, but then won't eat them. When I pointed this out to him, he simply replied that I could take the watermelon to my co-workers again because they love it when I do.  Fox told me he is allergic to Goodwill and puts on this big act whenever I make them go. His throat starts to be itchy and he can't breathe. We might have to get him tested again...hahaha. We visited a lot of play places this summer to stay out of the heat. This was at a library and the kids played with this lite-brite forever. Finn...

March iPhone dump

A look back at the month of March! Fox and I had a few hours to ourselves while Finn was at a birthday party, and he wanted to go shopping at Target and get some Starbucks. Sounds like my kind of date! This is where you can find him most days, playing games with his friends online, while simultaneously being on facetime with them. When did he get so big? Family game night outside! My sour patch kid. He told me he will still cuddle with me until he is 42...haha! I've been having a really hard time sharing parenting time lately. It kills me every time when I have to drop them off every other week for a stretch of five days, and I have been getting anxiety attacks. I know they are well taken care of, I know they have fun there and don't even think about me, but it still sucks. Whenever I'm not with them, I'm at work, and I guess it's just been extra hard because I never had to be away from them as much as I have since becoming a nurse.  Fox brought this home from schoo...
