Fox | 10 Month Update

Health:
Healthy as can be!

Nicknames:
Big Honey, Baby Honey, Bubba, Schatzi, Bubbles, Mr. Fox, Foxy, Pumpkin, Stinky Butts, Poodle, Big Huns

Eating:
I nurse Fox first thing in the morning, he gets 2 bottles (6oz each) while I’m at work (which I’m now trying to cut to one bottle by spacing out the feeding time to 4 hours), I nurse him when I get back home and then again before bedtime.

This month, I also dreamfed Fox once per night (at 1am), but I decided to try letting him go without any food at night and see how he does. The dreamfeed was more for me than him, just to know that he’s not hungry when he cries in the middle of the night. Hopefully I can report that he made the transition smoothly when I update again next month, so far it's been a week and he's been doing great!

He eats three solid meals a day and maybe a snack in between. He’s been doing so much better with trying different foods and actually liking other things than carbs. Katie also started to make him smoothies at night, with strawberries, bananas, yoghurt and spinach, which he LOVES. He gets all excited when she pulls out the blender!

He still likes to feed himself and actually does a pretty decent job putting a spoon in his mouth. Of course it’s super messy and bathtime is a must after dinner, but he is so proud of himself and will eat a lot of things from a spoon if he can feed himself, that he wouldn’t touch otherwise.

Teething:
Luckily he hasn’t gotten any more teeth this month, so we’re still at 6 teeth right now. He’s been chewing a lot lately though, so I think there might be some coming soon!

Sleeping:
He’s still doing great at night! Every once in a while he wakes up and cries for a short amount of time, which is still very, very hard for me to hear/watch on the monitor. He mostly sleeps through the night though, 12 hours straight, from 7pm until 7-7:30am.

He takes a really good morning nap (1.5-2.5 hours), but it has been nearly impossible to get him down for an afternoon nap. We decided to transition him to one nap a day for now, unless he has a very short or early morning nap and gets tired in the afternoon. For the most part, he is doing awesome with this arrangement though and never gets fussy until it gets really close to bedtime. He is one happy baby!

Diapers:
Size 3

Clothing:
We’re all over the place. He’s wearing anything from 6 months, up to 12 months.

Social:
He is so talkative and babbles all day long. He’s been doing great with other people as well, I remember when he had really bad “stranger danger” a few months ago and now he doesn’t care who holds him and he has been doing awesome with Matthias (our au pair) as well. He could care less when we leave for work in the morning, but my favorite is coming home and seeing his excitement and huge smile on his face.

Likes:
Putting everything in his mouth, music and dancing, standing, pulling himself up on everything, being outside, riding in his stroller, other babies and children, when we make loud sounds that surprise him (like “boo”, sneezing, etc.), sleeping on his side and stomach, water bottles, our dogs (especially Zuma), bath time (only when we allow him to stand up in the bath tub), having his mommies attention, bracelets and necklaces, pulling hair, watching videos of himself giggle (it’s hilarious, he will smile the biggest smile towards the video and is mesmerized…it’s an awesome tool during car rides when he gets mad!), baby puffs, bananas, smoothies, yoghurt melts and any kind of carbs, cell phones, walking with his walker or if someone holds his hand, playing peek-a-boo, Roomba (vacuum robot), his baby doll, shaking his head (like he’s saying “no, no, no”), TV remotes, opening cabinets and drawers, slamming his legs up and down into the changing table pad in the morning (he laughs hysterically when he does), looking at pictures of Katie, me and himself on our picture wall

Dislikes:
The Sun (he sneezes and it makes him mad when it shines in his face), Naps, being held like a baby, when we take something away from him, changing his diaper, when we put him into his sleep sack at night (he knows that means bedtime)

Mama:
Same as last month! I’m still super happy about my new work schedule (5am-2:30pm) that allows me to spend the afternoon with Fox, but I miss him every minute I’m away from him. I’m so proud of him reaching all these new milestones, but it certainly is bittersweet and I’m already anxious about him turning 1 (although we have started to plan his party several weeks ago). Every month gets more fun, but I also miss the baby stage…it’s so true what everyone says, they grow up way to fast. I’m going to blink and he’ll be in Kindergarten!

Mommy:
Katie is so proud of Fox. She always says that (unlike me) she doesn’t like the baby stage and can’t wait for him to grow a little older to do fun things. She is his biggest cheerleader and always encourages him to learn new things and be independent. For whatever reason, we started calling her “Mommy Girl” and Fox totally knows who to look for when we say it. Seeing her in the morning is still super exciting and you can just tell how much he loves her!

Fun things we did:
We went to the Zoo two times this month and had a huge baby play date at our house. Fox has been going to the park every day with Matthias and they seem to have a lot of fun together.

We went to a joint 1st birthday party for Fox’s friends Harper and Aria, had his 9-month pictures taken and spent a lot of time with Katie’s dad and stepmom.

Milestones:
Oh my goodness, this boy gave us a run for the money this month! We leave for a few hours to go to work and when we come home, he learned a new trick. It’s crazy and amazing at the same time. He can now crawl like a pro, climb stairs, pull himself up on anything, walk fast with a walker, stand for a few seconds without any support, feed himself with a spoon, give kisses on command, shake his head (“no, no, no”) and cruise around furniture. So many milestones!

What we’re looking forward to:
Fox’s first Easter and seeing him become more and more independent and mobile this month!

August iPhone dump

A few of my favorite moments from August! Meet the teacher for the boys! I received this picture from Katie's wife, such a sweet bond they have. I'm also loving how his pajamas are inside out...haha. Walter came back to spend a few days with us! We watched him last summer, and the boys kept talking about him, so we were all so excited when his mom asked us to watch him for a few days. Notice Finn pouting. He was upset that Walter "only pays attention to Fox". So many big emotions in such a tiny body. Mr. Cool Guy at his dentist check up and teeth cleaning! I was trying to get some work done in my office, but this guy needed some attention. Finn made a bed for them, so they could sleep together. In the end, no one wanted to sleep there, but he was so happy to cuddle with Walter for a bit. My friend got me some comedy tickets to see "Nurse John", so I invited my two besties, and two of my old classmates, and we had a blast, he was so funny. We even got VIP acc...

May iPhone dump

Some of my favorite moments of May that haven't made it on the blog yet. May has been such an incredible month and I wish I could turn back time and do it all over again. Between graduating from nursing school and all the celebrations that came with that, Fox's 10th birthday, Finn's Kindergarten graduation, and all the sweet little moments in between, it was a month I will never forget.  Kindergarten Homework for this cutie, he is very smart, but hates doing it. This was my favorite view at school, right when you exited the building. This was the place where we met up with friends during breaks, and after every exam, and I wanted to take a picture to remember this special place.  Making paper airplanes has been a new favorite for him. This was two days before I took my final exam, and I probably should've been studying, but having an ice cream date with the boys sounded much more fun. He loves to make us laugh. While Finn and I were getting ready for bed, I asked him to...

December iPhone dump

December came and went in a flash! We visited Santa! I started a new job in November as a patient care technician in the Oncology unit at the hospital I'm hoping to get hired by after I graduate. I have heard from many people that this hospital usually hires nurses from within, so I wanted to get my foot in the door, and also gain some more experience before graduating. I was really nervous about handling two 12 hour days per week, on top of school and sharing custody of the kids, and while it hasn't been easy, it has been very rewarding. I love the unit I'm on, the patients, the people I work with, and it's a very humbling experience to work in Oncology.  I took a screen shot of my activity after one of my shifts, I usually average between 7.5-9.5 miles per day, just from walking all over the unit.  The boys are playing bar with their cousin at Grandma's house.  We celebrated their cousin's first birthday! S'mores in the backyard. Nikolaus (a german traditi...
