The Joys of Working Together!

When people find out that Katie and I are working together, it doesn’t take long until they ask, if that’s working out. You can basically count in your head to three, because you know the question comes up. Every single time. It’s funny to me how some people can’t wrap their head around the fact that living together and working together might be something wonderful, instead of something annoying.
We actually started working together only four months after we met, we worked at the same restaurant, her in the lunch shift, me in the night shift, some days our shifts would be the same and since we only had one car at that time, it worked perfect.
It wasn’t long after we moved to AZ that we started working together once again. We even shared an office, which, I have to admit, was tough at times. I was hired as a Sales Rep and let’s just face it, I suck at cold calling people, because I get butt hurt every time they hang up on me or are rude. I don’t know how anyone likes working in Sales. I have so much respect to all of these people in my office who make a living cold calling people, because it’s definitely not for me. I don’t know how they do it.

Anyway, Katie tried to help me and give me suggestions, which I took as criticism and it was not a good situation.
A few months later I was transferred to our “sister company” and Katie’s company moved into a different building, which meant we wouldn’t work together anymore, but I loved my new job and so did Katie, so it worked out for the best.
It must have been over 1.5 years later when Katie’s company closed and she was hired back at my company. I remember being happy for her, but I also remember being slightly worried about having her "back at MY job", for several reasons, that are too silly to even write down.
It’s been another 1.5 years since she started working back in the same office and I couldn’t be happier about it.
I love that we can carpool and I only have to drive every other day to work, saving not only gas, but I can get so much done during the times I don’t have to drive as well. Plus, who doesn't like early morning "dance parties" in the car to wake up?
I love to have lunch with her every day and knowing that there is at least one person at work who always has my back, even when I’m wrong.
I love that when I’m having a rough day at work, that she is there, giving me encouraging smiles or pep talks. When we have Show Weeks and work crazy long hours, it’s nice to still get to spend some time together, even if it’s at work.
I guess what makes it work is the fact, that even though we work together, we do totally different things and she is not my boss and I’m not hers.  We work in different areas of the office, I can hear her all day long (which is nice because she cracks me up!), but there is a tall wall that separates me from the rest of the staff, which is all I need to tune people out if I have to! I love my wall.
So there you have it. I guess there is no secret recipe and working and living together might not be ideal for everyone, but we like it. A lot.

Sehr.

April phone dump

Some more pictures of our April. He's my bed hog, but I love sharing the bed with him and the way he comes find me in his sleep to snuggle up to me. Work Crew! Easter Preparations...it took me a solid hour to fill all the eggs. Finn chipped his permanent front tooth, and had to get it fixed. He was so brave. I tried to hold his hand to let him know I was there, and he kept giving me a thumbs up. Reading in bed with them is my favorite. We went to play mini golf, and it was an absolutely shit show. Just look at Finn in the background, he was on fire on this day. That's his "cool face". Not pictured are all the times he melted down because he wasn't "good enough". I really need to stop playing this game with him, because it happens every single time...haha.  Book Club! I wasn't a fan of the book, but it was great getting out and talking about books with other readers. He got into kinetic sand for a few weeks, and I felt like my floors were covered in s...

Germany

I took a quick trip to Germany over spring break while the boys were on vacation with Katie. My dad had some medical issues over the past year, and it had been almost two years since I went, but a trip that was supposed to be five days in Germany, ended up being only four days because of flight delays. When in Germany for the first time, you HAVE to try Mettbroetchen. Needless to say, she was not a fan haha. A trip down memory lane is always on the agenda for the first day, walking around my village, visiting the homes where I grew up in (which are luckily still owned by my family), visiting my grandparent's graves, and eating all my favorite foods.  My only living grandparent, and one of the main reasons I wanted to go visit. It was so special to spend time with her. We had doener almost every day! Family dinner at my favorite restaurant one night, I absolutely loved how many people were able to join us even though it was very short notice. We also had breakfast at my grandma'...

August phone dump

It's September, and I couldn't be more excited for what's to come...Fall, Halloween, Christmas...it's my favorite time of year. But let's look back at our August! I've had them fill out the same back to school form since they started school many years ago. When all the kids go back to school, us moms celebrate with a back to school brunch and it was everything my heart needed and more! So many good conversations, so many laughs, and getting to hold baby Nora was the icing on the cake! Playdate with some friends! Fox read with me in the car while we were waiting for Finn's bus...it made me so happy! He asked me to make him an "ultimate chill space" while he was at school, and this is what I came up with. He approved, and even tried to have a sleepover with me there, but we only made it for about an hour, before we went to bed. I took the kids, and one of Fox's friend to the water park one afternoon and it was perfect. Finn braved the high dive f...
