Out of Africa

I saw this billboard on my way from work last week that was advertising the Out of Africa Wildlife Park and it showed this huge laughing camel and it said: “ Call us wild, call us crazy, just don’t call us a zoo!” I always wanted to go there, but it’s about 1.5 hours away and we didn’t think it would be worth it, since it was just another zoo. Well, that billboard totally sold us and we decided to take a trip there last weekend. I gotta say, the advertising was pretty good, but also totally misleading, because it was exactly what we thought it would be, just another zoo. I even think the Phoenix Zoo would’ve been so much better, but we decided to make the best out of it and enjoyed the day.

We fed some giraffes and camels.

Wir fütterten einige Giraffen und Kamele.
We saw the Tiger Splash Show, which was pretty entertaining, but made me feel sad for the tiger. They lured him with toys, just to take them away from him once he got them...

The Anaconda Show was probably the highlight of the trip, just because they chose me as one of the volunteers who were supposed to hold the snake. Man, I’m tellin ya, that thing was HEAVY! I was in charge of holding the head and at that point I was already regretting raising my hand so quickly to volunteer. I just kept thinking to myself, “I guess they know what they’re doing, it won’t bite you”, followed by “Please don’t bite me, please don’t bite me”. Anyway, it kept moving out of my hands and around my body, which made the people in charge freak out and they kept yelling at me that I need to hold it better. Uhm...okay, I’m TRYING!

After all, it was an awesome experience and I think it’s always good to push your own limits.

We ended the trip with a short stop in Sedona, which was only half an hour away and it’s my absolute favorite city in Arizona. Beautiful doesn’t even cut it, it’s just STUNNING there, I love it.

Did I mention it was SO windy?
At the end of the day, we had dirt all over our faces, messy hair and a sunburn!:)
It was a good day!

July iPhone dump

The rest of our July in pictures! Movie date with the boys! I took Finn and his best friend to the Aquarium one day, while Fox was at the allergist with Katie. They both had a blast. Trying to touch the sting rays... Sweet brotherly moment at a play place. One of my patients made this for me, and it made my day. It's now hanging from the mirror in my car, as a reminder how fragile life is. This kid kills me with his watermelons. He always wants to buy them, so he can help me cut them, but then won't eat them. When I pointed this out to him, he simply replied that I could take the watermelon to my co-workers again because they love it when I do.  Fox told me he is allergic to Goodwill and puts on this big act whenever I make them go. His throat starts to be itchy and he can't breathe. We might have to get him tested again...hahaha. We visited a lot of play places this summer to stay out of the heat. This was at a library and the kids played with this lite-brite forever. Finn...

March iPhone dump

A look back at the month of March! Fox and I had a few hours to ourselves while Finn was at a birthday party, and he wanted to go shopping at Target and get some Starbucks. Sounds like my kind of date! This is where you can find him most days, playing games with his friends online, while simultaneously being on facetime with them. When did he get so big? Family game night outside! My sour patch kid. He told me he will still cuddle with me until he is 42...haha! I've been having a really hard time sharing parenting time lately. It kills me every time when I have to drop them off every other week for a stretch of five days, and I have been getting anxiety attacks. I know they are well taken care of, I know they have fun there and don't even think about me, but it still sucks. Whenever I'm not with them, I'm at work, and I guess it's just been extra hard because I never had to be away from them as much as I have since becoming a nurse.  Fox brought this home from schoo...
