Closets and Compromises

Our closet was one of the few rooms in this house we never painted when we moved it. And it bugged me. It was plain and the walls were dirty and scratched. Although we would love to have a custom closet, we knew that would not happen in the near future, so I decided to just paint it for now.

Vorher:
After:
Nachher:

Okay, you might not see a huge difference on these before and after pictures, but I'm telling you, to me it's like night and day and this little project made me very happy. The walls are now gray and I painted the shelves light gray and now that all of the clothes are back in the closet, you can't see that much of the walls anymore...haha. Oh well, still happy about the result.

We also did some picture shopping, after living in this house for almost two years, we still have a lot of empty walls and wanted to change that.  The reason for the empty walls is, that we have a total different taste in artwork and usually couldn't agree on anything together. Since that didn't get us very far, we just decided, we each get to pick one piece we like and deal with whatever the other person picked.

This is what Katie has to deal with:

Hiermit muss Katie sich abfinden:
I love them!
Ich liebe sie!

The top says: "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning to dance in the rain!"
Middle: Life is not measured by the number of breath we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away!"
Bottom: "Write your own life's story!"

And this is the picture Katie picked, bought from an artist at Venice Beach.

I call it "the scary tree picture"

Ich nenne es "das gruselige Baum Bild"

Oh well, Life is all about compromising, isn't it?

Naja, das Leben ist voller Kompromisse, oder?

July iPhone dump

The rest of our July in pictures! Movie date with the boys! I took Finn and his best friend to the Aquarium one day, while Fox was at the allergist with Katie. They both had a blast. Trying to touch the sting rays... Sweet brotherly moment at a play place. One of my patients made this for me, and it made my day. It's now hanging from the mirror in my car, as a reminder how fragile life is. This kid kills me with his watermelons. He always wants to buy them, so he can help me cut them, but then won't eat them. When I pointed this out to him, he simply replied that I could take the watermelon to my co-workers again because they love it when I do.  Fox told me he is allergic to Goodwill and puts on this big act whenever I make them go. His throat starts to be itchy and he can't breathe. We might have to get him tested again...hahaha. We visited a lot of play places this summer to stay out of the heat. This was at a library and the kids played with this lite-brite forever. Finn...

March iPhone dump

A look back at the month of March! Fox and I had a few hours to ourselves while Finn was at a birthday party, and he wanted to go shopping at Target and get some Starbucks. Sounds like my kind of date! This is where you can find him most days, playing games with his friends online, while simultaneously being on facetime with them. When did he get so big? Family game night outside! My sour patch kid. He told me he will still cuddle with me until he is 42...haha! I've been having a really hard time sharing parenting time lately. It kills me every time when I have to drop them off every other week for a stretch of five days, and I have been getting anxiety attacks. I know they are well taken care of, I know they have fun there and don't even think about me, but it still sucks. Whenever I'm not with them, I'm at work, and I guess it's just been extra hard because I never had to be away from them as much as I have since becoming a nurse.  Fox brought this home from schoo...
