Citizenship Test

The day I’ve been waiting for, for a long time, finally arrived: I had my citizenship test. I submitted my application at the beginning of February, had my fingerprinting appointment in March and completed the test in May.
I had been studying ever since I applied, but the test sounded more like a joke than anything else.
My study guide included 100 possible questions, including the answers and during the interview they ask you up to ten questions and you have to answer six correctly, if you get the first six right, they stop. How hard could it be, right?
I got the worst kidney infection that morning and thought I would pass out from the pain, but what are you gonna do…cancel the test? No way, plus I was also flying to Germany that night, so I put a smile on my face and went to the Immigration Office.
The first part was small talk, going over my application and making sure everything is correct.
Next, they tell you a sentence that you have to write down on a piece of paper, to prove that you’re able to write in English. “The flag is red, white and blue” was my sentence…alrighty then!
The test was, as expected, a joke. The immigration officer asked me the easiest questions, that only required a one word answer. I don’t remember them all, one was “Name one state that borders Canada” and another was “What ocean is on the East Coast?” I was just waiting for them to ask me what the capital of Arizona is and who the president of the United States is.
I was done after the six questions and he told me that he will recommend my application for approval.
The whole thing didn’t even take 20 minutes.
Although I was relieved that it was over and happy to have passed, I was in so much pain that I wasn’t even able to celebrate.
Luckily, my doctor prescribed me some antibiotics that I could take to Germany with me, without even seeing me.
I’m now waiting to get my appointment to go to court, to finalize my citizenship, which should happen in the next month or so.

"The flag is red, white and blue" lautete mein Satz ...da haetten sie sich ruhig was schwereres einfallen lassen koennen!

  1. Congratulation! My husband passed two weeks ago and my appointment is actually tomorrow. You know that feeling - I learned as much as needed (I know the answer to all questions) but I am still a little nervous.
I hope you could enjoyed your trip to Germany and that you feel better by now!

April phone dump

Some more pictures of our April. He's my bed hog, but I love sharing the bed with him and the way he comes find me in his sleep to snuggle up to me. Work Crew! Easter Preparations...it took me a solid hour to fill all the eggs. Finn chipped his permanent front tooth, and had to get it fixed. He was so brave. I tried to hold his hand to let him know I was there, and he kept giving me a thumbs up. Reading in bed with them is my favorite. We went to play mini golf, and it was an absolutely shit show. Just look at Finn in the background, he was on fire on this day. That's his "cool face". Not pictured are all the times he melted down because he wasn't "good enough". I really need to stop playing this game with him, because it happens every single time...haha.  Book Club! I wasn't a fan of the book, but it was great getting out and talking about books with other readers. He got into kinetic sand for a few weeks, and I felt like my floors were covered in s...

Germany

I took a quick trip to Germany over spring break while the boys were on vacation with Katie. My dad had some medical issues over the past year, and it had been almost two years since I went, but a trip that was supposed to be five days in Germany, ended up being only four days because of flight delays. When in Germany for the first time, you HAVE to try Mettbroetchen. Needless to say, she was not a fan haha. A trip down memory lane is always on the agenda for the first day, walking around my village, visiting the homes where I grew up in (which are luckily still owned by my family), visiting my grandparent's graves, and eating all my favorite foods.  My only living grandparent, and one of the main reasons I wanted to go visit. It was so special to spend time with her. We had doener almost every day! Family dinner at my favorite restaurant one night, I absolutely loved how many people were able to join us even though it was very short notice. We also had breakfast at my grandma'...

August phone dump

It's September, and I couldn't be more excited for what's to come...Fall, Halloween, Christmas...it's my favorite time of year. But let's look back at our August! I've had them fill out the same back to school form since they started school many years ago. When all the kids go back to school, us moms celebrate with a back to school brunch and it was everything my heart needed and more! So many good conversations, so many laughs, and getting to hold baby Nora was the icing on the cake! Playdate with some friends! Fox read with me in the car while we were waiting for Finn's bus...it made me so happy! He asked me to make him an "ultimate chill space" while he was at school, and this is what I came up with. He approved, and even tried to have a sleepover with me there, but we only made it for about an hour, before we went to bed. I took the kids, and one of Fox's friend to the water park one afternoon and it was perfect. Finn braved the high dive f...
