Christmas 2022

I posted this on facebook on Christmas, and want to document it here as well for anyone who can relate, but more so for my own memories.
A few moments I want to remember from our Christmas today:
- How Fox woke up Finn in the morning, whispering “Finn, it’s Christmas!”
- Their faces and excitement when they opened their gifts, after I had worried for weeks that they would be disappointed since Christmas had to be a lot smaller this year
- Finn telling me that I looked pretty
- Fox hugging and thanking me five times for the “best gift he’s ever gotten”
- Finn being so excited to give me his gift he made in preschool and added lots of kisses and hugs to it, as part of my “advent calendar” as he said
- The boys playing together for hours with minimal fights
- A beautiful blended family dinner with exes and new spouses, in-laws, and friends, that was full of laughter
- Fox wanting to sleep with me, even though Santa was coming to his other house tonight

Christmas looks different as a single mom, and even though this is not my first rodeo this year, it doesn’t get a lot easier. There’s something very sobering about having to fill your own stocking with things you find around the house in the hopes that the kids won’t notice, scrambling in the middle of the night to prepare everything for Christmas morning after the kids are finally asleep, with no help. And then there’s that deep loneliness that exists when you’re without your kids on Christmas, but also when it’s just you and the kids for Christmas.
So on this Christmas Eve, as im going to sleep without my kids here, I want to remember all of the beautiful moments we had today. And I want to remember how far I have come, and how grateful I am for in-laws that still consider me their daughter/granddaughter, an amazing co-parent and an even more amazing bonus mom (Katie's fiancee) for my boys, and the beautiful life I’ve been given. If you’re a single mama and struggling this Christmas, I see you. Please reach out and know you’re not alone.

  1. *I hug you. I know it doesn't help but I am happily married but I also have to fill my own stocking. You are doing a darn fine job with your two littles.

August iPhone dump

A few of my favorite moments from August! Meet the teacher for the boys! I received this picture from Katie's wife, such a sweet bond they have. I'm also loving how his pajamas are inside out...haha. Walter came back to spend a few days with us! We watched him last summer, and the boys kept talking about him, so we were all so excited when his mom asked us to watch him for a few days. Notice Finn pouting. He was upset that Walter "only pays attention to Fox". So many big emotions in such a tiny body. Mr. Cool Guy at his dentist check up and teeth cleaning! I was trying to get some work done in my office, but this guy needed some attention. Finn made a bed for them, so they could sleep together. In the end, no one wanted to sleep there, but he was so happy to cuddle with Walter for a bit. My friend got me some comedy tickets to see "Nurse John", so I invited my two besties, and two of my old classmates, and we had a blast, he was so funny. We even got VIP acc...

January iPhone dump

A quick look at our January! Nursing Level 2 unlocked...after getting a heated vest, I now also have my personal space heater at work. No one warned me how cold hospitals are...haha! We watched our friend's dog for a few days and Mr. Finn was in heaven. He wouldn't let go of poor Nugget and always wanted him to be right with him. His eyes say "Save me!!!" Cherishing the times that he will cuddle with me. I know I don't have much time left, and that makes me really sad. Self-care...reading a book in our hammock while the kids were playing nicely together. Another downfall of them growing up, is that we now have to order adult meals at the restaurant. I might have to get another job in order to afford these two...haha.  Katie sent me this picture of Finn sleeping with their dog one night.  Sweet things my co-worker leaves for me when I was sick at work...she made me a to-go tissue packet because the box I kept carrying around kept falling out of my fanny pack that I...

First day of school

This year I have a first and a fifth grader! Aww, he was so tiny in the first picture in Pre-K! Last year of elementary school for this big kid, and Mama is not ready for middle school next year. The boys had a great start to their school year, still taking the bus every day, and while no one is a fan of going to school around here, they seem to like their teachers and classes so far. I'm glad to be getting back to more of a routine for them (and me), because let me just tell you...summer was rough! Haha.
