Brain Dump!

1. I haven’t slept since we returned from our cruise. Not well anyway. While I was usually dead to the world by 10pm each night, I can’t seem to fall asleep anymore. My mind keeps racing around everything that’s going on in our life and I feel like I can’t catch a break. My body is tired, but my mind wants to run a marathon!

2. Zuma had a seizure while we were on vacation. The first one anyone has ever witnessed since those first episodes back in December of 2011. Luckily he was able to get out of it on his own, but after we called the vet, they wanted to check his blood levels anyway to make sure he is on the right medication and that his liver still looks ok, since his meds are really hard on his liver. We also had them check out his foot, since he kept licking it and they said he lost a toenail and it wasn’t a big deal. $471 later we found out that his liver levels were elevated, but everything else came back clear, but that little stinker decided the minute we got home, that his foot was bothering him after all and to not put anymore weight on it (he walked fine before). So he’s been hopping around the house on three legs, leaving us with the decision if we need to bring him in again. Such a drama queen!

3. Katie’s mom bought us tickets to fly to North Carolina with her in July! I’m soooo excited, I always wanted to go there and I can’t wait! Taking a vacation with our dog sitter holds its own problems though, so we need to figure out what we’re going to do with the dogs while we’re gone. :) Katie’s family is THE BEST!

4. It’s been four long months since we last tried to get my uterus to do its job and while there have been weeks where I was just enjoying myself and trying not to obsess about all things baby related, I’m ready to get this show on the road! We had an appointment this week to see how things are looking, but Dr. J thinks we need to wait a little longer, so waiting it is. Story of my life!
On a positive note, we got accepted for the IVF Insurance Program, where you pay a shitload of money to get three “fresh” IVF cycles and unlimited “frozen” cycles until we run out of embryos. It’s a money back guarantee, if you’re not bringing a baby home from the hospital after all of this, you get 100% back (minus the $11,000 we have to spend on medication and pre-testing). What a relief to have qualified for the program, although someone who also did this program told me that they usually accept almost anyone, because they want your money and know that you will most likely get pregnant on your first or second try.

5. I don’t watch much TV, but I’m so excited about the Bachelorette being back on and I can’t wait for Big Brother to start! Laugh all you want...it’s my guilty pleasure!

6. Our cleaning lady is stealing toilet paper from us instead of cleaning the house! Well, let me back up. Katie got me a cleaning lady last September after I have been cleaning the house by myself for the last 5 years (lucky her!). First I didn’t know what to do with all the free time I suddenly had, but this is like the best gift I’ve ever gotten (lucky me!)! I love it.
I wish we had cameras to see what the heck she is doing, because every time we come home, it looks like she dusted, took the money and left. And she takes our toilet paper, I’m not even kidding. My friend gave me the number of her cleaners, so hopefully we can switch to them and keep all of our toilet paper...haha.

7. We’ve been looking at houses for the last two weeks or so. House Hunting might seem fun to you, but it’s just as annoying to me as buying a new car. Or getting a root canal. Or getting punched in the gut. Well, you get the point. Every time I find my “dream house”, they just accepted a contract from someone else. Or it has renters in it for the next 2.5 years. Or Katie doesn’t like it. It’s been more than frustrating. I love our house, but with house prices and mortgage rates rising, we’re worried about missing the boat and getting stuck in the small space we have for the next ten years. Which is fine for the two of us, but if we bring kids in the mix, we probably want to move away from all of the sex offenders that live right behind us. Or the shitty school district we’re in. Or the gun shots we hear at night.
On the other hand I’m really concerned about making such a big financial investment before kids, not knowing what to expect...how many we’ll have, if they’re healthy, how much it will cost to raise them. Do I make sense? Because I don’t even make sense to myself anymore. So...if there are moms out there who read this, please shed some light for me!

Growing up the way I did, I’m always worrying about money, about not having any, about the “what ifs”, trying to save for the worst thing that could happen. I actually have a “cancer fund” aka “getting hit by a bus fund” or whatever other surgery may or may not come up.  I have to say, the American health system does not impress me. If you tell a German about deductibles or co-pays, they will not know what the heck you’re talking about.
I’m starting to ramble...anyway, I have no idea what in the world we’re supposed to do. Buy a new house or stay in our house and honestly, the thought of selling our house is super hard for me. It might not be perfect, but I love it. The house, not the neighborhood!

So...I guess that’s enough rambling for one day!
Until next time...

Also heisst es wieder Warten.

  1. Your poor doggie! I'm glad that his tests came back good. Aren't dogs so expensive?! I always joke with Georgia that feeding 3 dogs is like feeding teenagers. They eat a ton! Good luck in your search for a new home. :)

    1. That's funny! I always joke with Katie that our dogs cost as much as kids will cost (but really, what do I know?;)).

  2. I dont think that any one can ever be fully ready for kids. Your house will be fine till it's not. When we moved to AZ and this house, it was more than double the size of our Vegas home. To be fair though, when I bought my Vegas house, it was just me and 2 tiny dogs. HA. I disgress, but now in our bigger house, I could definitely find reason to have a bigger house, more bedrooms and more more more. We have 2 extra bedrooms right now, but I worry-- with the next baby, then we only have one spare, what if we have company, what if I want to do all the projects I have planned? Ect.
My mom reminded me that not every kid needs their own room. That sharing is acceptable and it wasn't child abuse. Things have a way of working themselves out. Don't stress over it. It will happen, or it won't and whatever house you have, it is home because there is love. :)
