190 days until Christmas!

A few years ago, my grandpa started building nativity houses, in all shapes and sizes, and I was lucky enough to see a few of them in his “workshop” during my 2010 Germany trip. I never knew he was so handy and I was amazed by his work, so I asked him a few months later if he wouldn't mind building one for me. I showed him a picture of one he had previously built that I loved so he could build it for me.
He was so thrilled that I had asked him. He had been talking about starting working on my house and even worried that he wouldn't get it done in time for my next visit, even though it was several months away. My grandpa passed away before he was able to start on my house.
The nativity house I had liked so much belonged to my grandma and she told me that she would never use it anymore, so she gave it to me when I visited in May. I felt very bad about taking hers, but she assured me several times, that she didn't want it anymore and wouldn’t put it up for Christmas anyway.
Everyone told me that it was too big to take to the US and couldn’t understand how I could pay so much money to bring it, but I just knew that I would treasure this house for the rest of my life and it was just so special to me. I love Christmas time and having something for my family that my grandpa built with his own hands, I would’ve paid five times the price that I paid to get it home.
It was quite the project to find a box that was big enough for the house, and not too big for the airport to not accept it. I assembled as much “stuffing material” as I could, to make sure the house wouldn’t get damaged and my dad helped me so much with getting everything together and packing it up securely, I was beyond grateful. He even made a special trip to come see me, just to help me pack it up...what a great dad he is!
My mom and grandma kept saying how happy my grandpa must be, knowing that HIS house was going all the way to the US, having a forever home under our Christmas tree. I hope he is.
Needless to say, my dad is a packing pro and the house made it to Phoenix in one piece! I can’t wait for December, Christmas time might start early at our house this year.

April phone dump

Some more pictures of our April. He's my bed hog, but I love sharing the bed with him and the way he comes find me in his sleep to snuggle up to me. Work Crew! Easter Preparations...it took me a solid hour to fill all the eggs. Finn chipped his permanent front tooth, and had to get it fixed. He was so brave. I tried to hold his hand to let him know I was there, and he kept giving me a thumbs up. Reading in bed with them is my favorite. We went to play mini golf, and it was an absolutely shit show. Just look at Finn in the background, he was on fire on this day. That's his "cool face". Not pictured are all the times he melted down because he wasn't "good enough". I really need to stop playing this game with him, because it happens every single time...haha.  Book Club! I wasn't a fan of the book, but it was great getting out and talking about books with other readers. He got into kinetic sand for a few weeks, and I felt like my floors were covered in s...

Germany

I took a quick trip to Germany over spring break while the boys were on vacation with Katie. My dad had some medical issues over the past year, and it had been almost two years since I went, but a trip that was supposed to be five days in Germany, ended up being only four days because of flight delays. When in Germany for the first time, you HAVE to try Mettbroetchen. Needless to say, she was not a fan haha. A trip down memory lane is always on the agenda for the first day, walking around my village, visiting the homes where I grew up in (which are luckily still owned by my family), visiting my grandparent's graves, and eating all my favorite foods.  My only living grandparent, and one of the main reasons I wanted to go visit. It was so special to spend time with her. We had doener almost every day! Family dinner at my favorite restaurant one night, I absolutely loved how many people were able to join us even though it was very short notice. We also had breakfast at my grandma'...

August phone dump

It's September, and I couldn't be more excited for what's to come...Fall, Halloween, Christmas...it's my favorite time of year. But let's look back at our August! I've had them fill out the same back to school form since they started school many years ago. When all the kids go back to school, us moms celebrate with a back to school brunch and it was everything my heart needed and more! So many good conversations, so many laughs, and getting to hold baby Nora was the icing on the cake! Playdate with some friends! Fox read with me in the car while we were waiting for Finn's bus...it made me so happy! He asked me to make him an "ultimate chill space" while he was at school, and this is what I came up with. He approved, and even tried to have a sleepover with me there, but we only made it for about an hour, before we went to bed. I took the kids, and one of Fox's friend to the water park one afternoon and it was perfect. Finn braved the high dive f...
