Fox | 17 Month Update

Weight:
Will find out at his 18 month appointment!

Height:
Will find out at his 18 month appointment!

Health:
He was great this month!

Nicknames:
Big Honey, Bubba, Turkey, Schatzi, Bubbles, Mr. Fox, Foxy, Pumpkin, Poodle

Eating:
It’s getting better and he’s eating and trying more foods than before, but I would still consider him picky. His favorites this month were fish sticks, chicken, blueberries, apple sauce, yoghurt, bananas, smoothies, strawberries, Carmela’s Chicken (it’s a Pasta Dish we get at Macaroni Grill and the kid is obsessed), ketchup (he’s obsessed and yells “ack” when he wants it), Belvita Breakfast bars, dried fruit
Teething:
No new teeth this month, he has 16 now.

Sleeping:
He’s been sleeping great. We get about 11 hours at night and 3 hours for nap. We think he’s going through a growth spurt, because some naps can even last 4 hours!

He seems like he’s having a hard time falling asleep at night though, he often rolls around and plays in his crib for 30-60 minutes before finally falling asleep. He goes to bed around 7:30pm and wakes up around 6:30am.

Diapers:
Size 4

Clothing:
18 months, Size 4 Shoe

Social:
He’s so shy around a big group of people, and sometimes I wish they would know how he acts at home. When it’s just us, he is so vocal, runs around, cracks up…but when he’s with other people, he acts all shy.

This month he has been really loud, he screams all the time. He screams when he’s mad, sad, happy, excited, tired…it’s been loud in our house! :)

He’s been really rough with our dog Cosie lately and tries to kick or hit him, so we’re working on that. Poor Cosie is the sweetest dog ever and just endures all the abuse, but we’re starting to discipline and teaching Fox that this is not acceptable.

He waves all the time now and it’s so cute. Wherever we go, he waves at every person he sees. He also waves when he wants something to go “bye bye”, i.e. when he had enough food or wants me to stop singing, he waves. Haha.

Words:
Dog, Cat, More, Ball, Danke (the german word for Thank you), Done, All done, Nein Nein (No No), bye bye, down, Bitte (german word for please), Wow (oh my goodness, it’s the cutest thing I ever heard and it’s currently his favorite word), Cheese, Ash (that’s his aunt).

He also says Mama with purpose now, he knows who Mama is (although at this point, he calls us both Mama) and points at me and says it. I love it!

While he has been saying “More” for a while now, he now yells it all day long, whenever he wants something. In a very demanding way…lol. We’re trying to teach him to say “More, Bitte (please)”!

Everytime we are in a parking lot, he points and yells “CarCar…Vroom Vroom”.

Likes:
Music and dancing (his favorite song is “Hoppe Hoppe Reiter” – german song), being outside, going in the pool, bigger kids, sleeping on his side and stomach, Cosie, bath time, having his mommies attention, watching videos of himself, cell phones and remotes, playing peek-a-boo, playing hide and seek (he always hides in the back of my closet and thinks he’s invisible, so funny), his stuffed animals, rolling his eyes at me, opening cabinets and drawers, his play kitchen, looking at pictures of Katie, me and himself on our picture wall, our vacuum cleaner, Baseball bats, play phones, playing soccer, riding and sitting in his cozy coupe, being independent, steps/stairs, drinking out of a straw, the Children’s Museum , the Aquarium, Open Play at Gymboree, Flowers (he asks to smell them), reading books, balls, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, riding those mechanical cars in the mall, climbing
Dislikes:
When we take something away from him, changing his diaper or getting dressed (basically anything where he is restrained), brushing his teeth, putting lotion on after his bath, kisses from our dog Cosie (I don’t blame him, he never quits!), when we don’t allow him to do something, when we go inside after playing outside

Fun things we did:
We went to Disneyland with the entire family and had a blast!

Milestones:
This kid is all about jumping these days. He is so proud of himself when he actually catches air, but it’s also terrifying for his Moms, because he has no fear! He jumps from couches and even tries to jump in the pool (we have a pool fence, so no worries! ;))

Fox also slept at Grandma’s House for the very first time. It was his first time away for the entire night and he did great! Mama, on the other hand, was sad and missed her baby, but Katie and I had a great night as well!

He also learned a lot of animals sounds this month and can point to different body parts, if you ask him where something is. He does this in English and german, meaning, he understands it interchangeably.

He nods with purpose, but there is no rhyme or reason when he nods or shakes his head. Sometimes, he knows what it means, but sometimes, he just answers randomly, if that makes sense!

He brings stuff into the trash for us now too, is it too early for a chore chart? Just kidding!

What we’re looking forward to:
It’s finally October! We have been waiting for this month for so long! We can’t wait to spend more time outside, taking wagon rides, playing outside, going to the playground and Zoo!

We are also looking forward to all the Fall/Halloween activities in the next few weeks. We will be very busy! We have three pumpkin patches scheduled, a huge Halloween party at our house, a day at the Botanical Garden, the Arizona State Fair and Matthias’ family is visiting from Denmark for a week! I’m sure Fox will love to see Frida again and we can’t wait to see her and meet the rest of his family!
